Anita’s Story

“I always do my shopping first thing on a Friday morning for the weekend ahead. I try to go as early as possible when it’s not as busy. I have been going to my local supermarket for the last 6 years.

On the day of my accident I got to the store at about 9.15am. I got my trolley and went into the supermarket. I needed some fruit and vegetables so I went down that aisle with my trolley and parked my trolley next to the vegetable stand. I then walked over to weigh the vegetables that I had picked and as I was walking I slipped on some wet milk which caused me to slip and fall heavily on my back. I looked down straight away and saw what had caused my fall. A large pool of milk had been allowed to form in that area. I saw also that the milk stand was very close by. It took a few minutes before a member of staff came to help me. I showed them where I had fallen. They immediately got another member of staff to come out with a mop to mop up the area and make it safe. I noticed also that there were no warning signs in the area.

A lady who was doing her shopping told me that she had seen what had happened so I took her name and details just in case I needed to speak to her again. After a few minutes, the manager of the store came out and asked me to accompany him to his office where he asked me to complete an accident report form. He filled in the relevant details of what happened and I went through it with him and signed the firm. I did ask him for a copy of the form and he thankfully provided me with same.

I thought leaving the supermarket that day that I would be fine. However, within a few days my back became very sore and I attended my General Practitioner. My GP referred me to an Orthopaedic Surgeon and after some x-rays were taken it was found that I had a protruding disc in my lower back. When I told my daughter what had happened she told me that I should seek legal advice and I then contacted Moloney & Company Solicitors.
